Bárbara López: Univision’s New Protagonist
Mexican actress Bárbara López takes on the leading role in Los Hilos del Pasado, Univision’s modern remake of the classic El Privilegio de Amar, premiering September 10.
Bárbara was only 4 years old when the 1998 hit aired. “I was too young to watch telenovelas back then,” she laughs. “But thanks to TikTok clips, I understand why it became such a success.”
Now, at 33, she steps into the spotlight with this updated version of Delia Fiallo’s story, first introduced in 1985 as Cristal.
“Comparisons Don’t Worry Me”
Following in the footsteps of great actresses like Adela Noriega (El Privilegio de Amar) and Maite Perroni (Triunfo del Amor), Bárbara knows comparisons are inevitable.
“Of course there will be comparisons, but that doesn’t worry me,” she explains. “Failure doesn’t scare me either—it’s part of our career. This project is full of promise, and I’m excited to enjoy what’s ahead.”
Working with David Zepeda and Yadhira Carrillo
David Zepeda, who plays a key role, praises Bárbara as “an extraordinary actress—committed, fresh, spectacular, and disciplined.” Their on-screen chemistry as father and daughter (though unaware of their bond in the story) has been one of the show’s highlights.
She also shares her admiration for Yadhira Carrillo, returning to acting after 15 years. “Her beauty and strength on set amazed me. She gives me invaluable advice and remains as radiant as ever.”
A Journey of Success
Bárbara studied at Televisa’s Artistic Education Center and began her career in 2015 with Amor de Barrio. She gained massive recognition in 2018 with Macarena Achaga as one half of the iconic lesbian couple in Amar a Muerte.
Since then, she has appeared in series like El Juego de las Llaves, Isla Brava, and Chespirito: Sin Querer Queriendo. With over a million Instagram followers, her fanbase continues to grow.
