With Spotify's debut of podcast comments in July, the need for more content moderation has emerged. This month, the company introduced a new automatic moderation tool for audience interactions.
The content author can adjust the moderation level between "low," "standard," and "high," each of which provides a level of tolerance for infractions and potentially unwanted comments.
In the mildest
option, automatic moderation only contains comments that may violate Spotify's
rules. In the intermediate mode, the control applies to comments with
potentially sensitive or inappropriate content, such as sending the post to the
podcaster for personal evaluation.

Finally, Spotify retains all comments and sends them to the podcaster for approval in the strictest control. Thus, all comments left on the publication are subject to the scrutiny of the content publisher.
▪ Sensitive comments are hidden by default
It's worth noting, however, that even at the lowest level of supervision, potentially sensitive comments will still be hidden by default—even if they are typically published. In this case, other listeners can check the hidden content by tapping the "Show all comments" button.
The author can also
add prohibited words, phrases, or emojis to the comments, thus expanding the
list of content and improving the automatic moderator's performance. Likewise,
turning off support for comments in any episode is possible.

Spotify says the
new moderation tool is currently in the testing phase. "While we continue
to test and develop our automatic detection systems for more languages, all
comments in languages other than English will continue to be
reviewed by the individual podcaster," the company explained. However, the
platform promises to expand automatic moderation to more languages "soon."
