The new AI tools in Google Photos

Google Photos has gained new tools for video editing. On Sep 23, 2024, the Search Giant announced new functions with artificial intelligence in the native gallery and a review of the editing interface.

The main additions are in the "Presets" tab, which contains new AI tools for applying specific effects to videos: automatic cuts, slow motion, automatic framing, and zoom.

Like the other editing options, the AI ​​tools are listed in a carousel. When you tap on any of them, the app takes a moment to process and apply the desired effect to the video.

In addition to the new features, Google Photos has also revised the interface of the first video editing screen. The "Video" tab now presents the options in a carousel, similar to the other tabs in the gallery.

The section also received the new "Auto Adjust" function, which improves colors and stabilizes the video simultaneously, and the speed control, which allows you to adjust the video playback speed.

Finally, Google Photos editing has introduced a new cropping feature. Google hasn't shown the feature in action yet but says it lets you "cut footage precisely where you want it."

Even with the new features, Google Photos' video editor is still pretty basic — and doesn't even come close to being compared to more robust tools like CapCut and Filmora. However, it can be helpful for quick and free editing.
