One of the biggest names in video games is about to receive its movie adaptation. Warner Bros Pictures and Legendary Pictures revealed this September 04, 2024. the first official trailer for the live-action Minecraft movie will have a cast led by Jack Black (School of Rock) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman).
WB also took the opportunity to reveal that the Minecraft movie will hit theaters on April 4, 2025. In addition to the actors mentioned above, the cast includes Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple) and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Lisey's Story). Despite being relatively short, the Minecraft movie trailer takes players to some very familiar places as well as introduces some familiar characters. Jack Black, for example, will play the iconic Steve, the game's protagonist.

"Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn't just help you create, it's essential to your survival," the live-action film's official synopsis reads. "Four misfits, Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison, Henry, Natalie and Dawn, find themselves struggling with everyday problems when they're suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination."
If you've already ventured into the game created by Mojang, you'll have recognized some familiar faces in the trailer. Some of them include a legion of Piglins, the fearsome Creepers and several animals with that characteristic square design of this universe.
The trailer has everything a fan would want to see, but it may be strange due to the bizarre visuals of the live-action adaptation. The entire film may have even more surprises for those who have played Minecraft since its beginnings.

Finally, it's also worth remembering that Netflix and Mojang announced in May this year that they are working on an animated series set in Minecraft. The announcement coincided with the franchise's 15th anniversary — however, details about the production are still scarce.
