YouTube continues its battle against those who use ad blockers to watch videos on the platform. According to reports on Reddit, the company started showing a black screen for a few seconds for those who use adblockers and didn't let them skip the section before starting the video.
The author of one
of the publications comments that he uses uBlock Origin on YouTube, and the
black screen was displayed right before playback in the space normally reserved
for ads. On the one hand, the person still doesn't see the advertisement, but
on the other hand, they can't control the reproduction until the time runs out.
Looks like Youtube started injecting ads directly into the video stream

Ads on YouTube are a way to support content creators and enable billions of people around the world to use our service. By blocking YouTube ads, the user violates the platform's Terms of Service. When we identify ad blockers, we will ask for permission to serve advertising or for the user to subscribe to YouTube Premium. Continuing to use ad blockers may prevent videos from playing.
YouTube vs. ad blockers
YouTube started cracking down on adblockers last year: First, it started showing a countdown asking you to disable the component. Then, it adopted more severe measures, such as blocking playback after watching three publications with the blocker active, causing slowdowns, or skipping directly to the end of the video.
The company has
already confirmed that it is making a “global effort” to prevent the use of
these tools and says that advertisements are a way of supporting the creator
ecosystem and facilitating access to the videos. All measures encourage a
subscription to YouTube Premium, which is $13.99 per month, removes ads, and
offers other exclusive benefits.
