After streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ launched a plan with ads, Apple TV+ emerged as the next to join the modality. At least that's what The Telegraph suggests, which last Saturday (27) revealed that the platform met with a UK classification body to discuss alternatives for collecting data for advertising.
According to the sources, Apple sent some of its executives to meet with the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB), an organization that measures television audiences in the United Kingdom.
Although BARB can offer important information about the service's products, revealing, for example, the time viewers spend watching its titles, the agency was unable to help Apple TV+ in the way expected, as it would need to use additional techniques to do the job and perform tracking desired by the platform.
The obstacle, however, should not stop Apple streaming, which has been raising rumors for years about the launch of an ad-supported plan and now seems even closer to carrying out this endeavor.
The Apple TV+ new plan may change the streaming price again
For those who don't remember, Apple TV+ readjusted the price of its subscription in the United States at the end of last year, jumping from US$6.99 to US$9.99.
It is worth noting, however, that the platform does not always implement the same change in all its territories.
In the United States, for example, Apple had already increased the price of the Apple TV+ by 40% in 2022, going from US$4.99 to US$6.99. However, in some countries, such as Brazil, the price of the subscription has remained unchanged since November 2019, when the platform arrived in the country.
That means, even if a plan with Apple TV+ ads is launched in the United Kingdom or the United States, there is no guarantee that the subscription will also reach other markets, either definitively or simultaneously.
Furthermore, if it
comes to fruition, the news could bring a new change in the platform's price,
leading streaming to increase the value of its existing package to implement
the cheaper version with advertising.
